Email updates for dealers

Yesterday we added a new feature to the Car Arena to email updates of new cars submitted to the Car Arena website. This email, which is sent to member dealers, contains a list of every car submitted within the last two hours which the dealer has not yet made an offer for but may be interested in.

The email contains a list of cars along with key details for the car (such as the vehicles age,  Color, Previous owners, Engine size, CO2 rating, etc...). Each entry has a link which will take you directly to the vehicle profile on Car Arena.

If you have not already done so you should login to Car Arena and set the filters in your profile to the manufacturers you are interested in, you may also stop this email from being sent to you by checking "Do not send me new vehicle updates' on your profile page.

Should you have any suggestions, ideas or comments on this feature please feel free to contact the Car Arena team or your account manager.

Smart under fire over fuel economy claims

Recently the BBC program Watchdog investigated Smart regarding the new fortwo Diesel fuel economy claims of 85.6 mpg after a number of drivers had been sent complaints to the program. Smart car owners have found that the claim of 85.6 mpg is almost never seen and in reality they average 50-65 mpg.
So where did the claim of 85.6 mpg come from?

The Smart fortwo Diesel has an emission certification of 85.6 mpg for both EC Urban and EC Extra Urban.
EC Urban (ECE1) and EC Extra Urban (EUDC) are both standardized tests performed on cars sold in the EU. Cars are placed on a rolling road and every car is driven the same way for the same distance and time. The amount of fuel used during these tests gives the EC Urban and Extra Urban ratings, more information here.

So why do Smart owners almost never see the fuel economy found in the test?
Well quite simply because no one will ever drive on the road as it was driven in the test conditions, indeed it is likely that the car itself may have been deliberately designed to perform well in the test. The EC economy ratings are really only good for comparing one car against another and should not be taken as an estimate of how the car will perform on the road.
You can never expect to drive on the road in the same conditions and in the same way the car was driven under the test. Your cars fuel economy is affected by tire pressures, weight, weather conditions, driving style, the age or the car, its temperature, the type of fuel used, ...
However, overall the EC Urban and Extra Urban are often a good way to compare fuel economy. Even if the Smart fortwo Diesel was designed to excel in the test it is still likely to give better fuel economy than a 2l Diesel Peugeot 307 which has an EC Urban and Extra Urban rating of 36.7 mpg & 55.4 mpg.

Dealer Directory Added to Car Arena

The Car Arena team has been busy out and about finding all the dealers across the country and recruiting them onto the Car Arena website. The number of dealers making bids for cars on the site is slowly starting to grow but we also decided that it would be useful for visitors to our site if they could browse through the lists of dealers we have discovered.
The dealer directory can be found by going to http://www.cararena.co.uk/locations/
There are over 4,000 dealers listed at the moment - our team is slowly making their way through the list inviting dealers to the site.
If you are a car dealer who is listed in our directory and wish to amend any details please contact us via the car arena website and we'll make the changes for you. All of the links are clean - there are no 'nofollow' links to your site so hopefully it'll give you a slight boost with your online efforts.

New Car Arena Design

We've just finished the first part of a major update to the Car Arena website!
The visual design on the entire website has been overhauled (not even the logo survived!) in favour of a much cleaner and less cluttered look. Flash animations to introduce car owners to the site have been included and tabbed dialogs for easy access to each section of the site.
Underneath the hood the code which runs the site has also been overhauled.
Car Owners only need their registration to start a valuation, a referrer program has been added to the site, valuations no longer badger car owners for images and a number of updates for the dealer interface to make navigating the website easier.
